Yamaha has started to look into the scooterette segment in India, for this is currently the fastest growing segment for two-wheelers. Yamaha has Yamaha Ray Z as the successor to its first gearless scooter Yamaha Ray, and is specially targeted at males. Unlike Ray, sporty graphics and enhanced design forms the pattern on the new Ray Z, which makes it manly and robust. Yamaha Ray Z comes with the same engine that has been seen in its predecessor and almost all other specifications of both these machines are similar. Ray Z is powered with an 113cc, air-cooled, 4-stroke, SOHC, 2-valve with CVT and single cylinder engine. The top power generated by this engine is 7.1PS with a top torque of 8.1Nm. The dimensions of the scooter are easy to get used to with a low kerb weight of 104kg. The front wheel of the scooter is equipped with Telescopic suspension while the rear part is supported with unit swing suspension. The vehicle has 18litres of under seat storage to accommodate the rider. The overall design of the bike is very enticing with features like meter visor, rear wing grab bars, red coil rear suspension, and an all black theme. The performance of the scooterette is decent with a mileage delivery of 53kmpl.
Mileage and Fuel Economy
Yamaha Ray Z with a powerful 113cc engine claims a mileage of 53kmpl, which is impressive. The user reviews say that the scooter is returning a mileage of 53kmpl on the highways while on the narrow streets and busy roads, the mileage comes down to around 45kmpl. The scooter has been able to carry 5 litres of fuel in its tank.
This is a stylish looking scooter with sporty graphics and the colors that are applied to its body are Black Thunder, Pristine White, and Regal Red. The front fender, half-front fairing, and rear panel are in body color along with attractive graphics. The remaining half-front fairing, cowl, rear view mirrors, muffler, tyres, and all the left out parts of the scooter come in Black.

The engine is provided with BS type of carburettor along with TPS (Throttle Position sensor) function. The front tyre works with telescopic fork suspension to keep the journey smooth and likable for the riders though the narrow tyre keeps the rider from performing sharp turns. The front and rear wheels are loaded with 130mm diameter drum brakes. Though its competitors like Honda Aviator comes fitted with disc brake at the front wheel.
The scooter maker has installed Telescopic suspension at the front and Unit swing suspension at the rear. The rear suspension is a single spring suspension that maintains the balance alone and provides a nice and stable ride to the riders.
Handling and Control
Yamaha Ray Z weighs just 104kg, which is very light for a vehicle, and this makes the riders very easy to handle and control the bike in every situation, they encounter. The suspension system of this scooter is also very strong which keeps the quality of the ride up to the mark. The narrow tyres might pose problems for the rider on sharp turns and on sandy terrains. The braking system of this bike is not that advanced but does a good job when needed.

Yamaha Ray Z comes with 113cc motor with an air-cooled, 4-stroke, SOHC, 2-valve, single cylinder petrol engine. It pumps a maximum power of 7bhp at a rate of 7500rpm and provides a maximum churning torque of 8.1Nm at a rate of 5500rpm. To make its riding experience better, it is loaded with an automatic transmission. Scooter is having a bore of 50mm and 57.8mm of stroke. It has a wheelbase of 1270mm and 128mm of ground clearance.
